Angel Animals Among Us

theotherday.Afterreadingone
of our books she was upset to
thinkthatweconsideranimals
as having divine qualities. She
misinterpretedthatinreferring
toanimalsasangelsthismeant
thatweworshippedtheanimals
butnottheirCreator.Inherbelief
systemourassertionthatanimals
haveaspiritualnaturewasblas-
phemous.
Herscorchinghotlettercaused
ustoreflectanewaboutwhywe
coinedtheterm"angelanimals"
astheoveralldescriptionofani-
mals.Thewaywedefinetheterm
isthattheword"angel"means
"messenger."
Inthethousandsofstorieswe
have received over the years as
wellasourpersonalexperiences,
wewitnessanimalsbeingguided
byGod,ortheDivine,whatever
peoplewanttocalltheessenceof
loveinalllife,tobringpeoplethe
messagethattheyarenotalone
orabandoned.Toevenbetheve-
hiclesformiraclestooccur.
So this week, we decided to
askoursocialnetworkingbuddies
whytheyviewanimalsasangels.
Belowareasomecomments.
"Becauseoftheircapacityfor
divineloveandprotection."
"EverytimeIlookatmypet,I
justfeelallthelovefromSpirit."
"While I might debate the use of
thetermangel,Ihaveseenover
and over that animals are soul
and less encumbered by the dis-
tractionsthatmaygetinourway.
They are closer to their spiritual
nature and can help us perceive
our own. They are just there for
you, meeting your needs to the
bestoftheirability.That'slove."

needed him most. He is my little
angel.

Aftertheoldmandied,thedog
followedalongthenextday.It's
agreatstory.Thedogcameinto
hislifewhentheoldmanneeded
somethingtokeephimgoingand
broughthimbacktolife.Iamnot
sureifitwastrueornotbutIcan
seewhereitcouldhavebeen."
DOG PARK ANGEL
Allentookourcockerspaniel
Leaf to one of his favorite dog
parks here in Minnesota. It's a
spacious forest area that runs
alongtheMississippiRiver.Allen
threwLeaf'sfavoriteballintothe
water.Justatthattimeacouple
ofmotorboatswentby,stirring
up waves. The ball bobbed and
driftedfartheroutintothecur-
rent.Leaf'stinylegscouldn't
managetoswimfastenoughto
reachit.
Anotherdoglovercamealong
atthattimeandnoticedLeaf's
dilemma. Our pup looked so
disappointed that his beloved
bouncy ball had floated out
of reach. The woman called to
herlong-leggeddogandasked,
"Would you want to help this
littleguy?"
Without any hesitation her
angel dog jumped into the wa-
ter,swamtotheball,scoopedit
intohismouth,andthenpaddled
backtoLeaf.Hedroppedtheball
infrontofLeaf.Thenheranoff
downthesandybeach,present-
ingabeautifulexampleofwhat
angelsdo:Theyreturnwhatever
is most important in our lives
evenwhenwebelieveallhasbeen
lost.
THE CAT WHO TAUGHT A
WIDOW TO LOVE AGAIN

I was in the bookstore with
mysonandgrandchildrenwhen
IsawyourbookAngel Cats.See-
ingthebookremindedmeofthe
firsttimeIsawmycatDivaand
howwemadeanimmediatecon-
nectionoflove.
Diva is my miracle cat. Not
onlydidshewanttocomehome
withme,loveme,andenjoymy
company,sheencouragesmedai-
lytogetupandcontinueliving.
Divabecamepartofmylifeasa
directresultofanaccumulation
oflifeevents,whichIfoundmy-
selftryingtoprocess.
Mylifehadalwaysbeenase-
riesofwonderfulexperiences,but
whenmyhusbanddiedin1998,
Ifoundmyselfanewly-indepen-
dentpersontryingtounderstand
how to live in a world without
mycompanion.Iquicklydiscov-
eredthatmyrolesofstay-at-home
wifeandmotheroftwochildren
aswellasvolunteerdidnotbring
inagreatdealofincome.
Bothmychildrenweregrown
withfamiliesoftheirown.Ihad
onlytobeconcernedwithpro-
vidingforthefamilycatKikiand
myself.Thiswasdefinitelysome-
thingIhadneverexperienced--I
wasinchargeofmakingallthe
decisions.
Attheageof55,Iwenttowork
forastart-upcompany.Aftersev-
enyearsIdiscoveredlifehadonce
againchanged.Atthetimeofmy
departure from the company, I
wasaverysad,confused,andan-
gryperson.Iknewmyemotions
neededtochange,fortheywere
notonlyaffectingmebutKiki,as
well.
Theenvironmentinourhome
was so sad; it could not have
been healthy for either of us. I
crieddailyandhadagoodcaseof
"poorme."Mytruewakeupcall
camewhenKikidiedathomein
December2006.Seattlewasexpe-
riencingaverysevereicestorm
atthattime,andmostbusinesses
wereclosedonthedayKikidied.
IwasunabletogettoavetsoI
spentthedaywithKiki,watch-
ingasherspiritleftherphysical
body.
Thenextfewmonthsmyfam-
ilytriedtoencouragemetoget
another pet. Those seeds were
definitelyplanted,butIfeltan
overwhelmingvoidanddidnot
know if I had enough love to
sharewithanotherbeing.Once
Ifeltmysadnessandangersub-
side,Idiscoveredtherewasroom
forlovetoenter.Ninemonths
afterKikidied,Iwenttoourlocal
petstoreandthoughtIwould
justlookatthecats.
Iwalkedovertoalocalcatres-
cue group had a variety of cats
availablefornewfamilies.There
wasDiva.Shewassixyearsold,
alonghaircat,possiblyaMaine
Coon.Wemadeeyecontact.At
thatmomenttheadoptionwas
complete, and my healing pro-
cessbegan.
Every day Diva is here is a
blessing,andmyabilitytolove
becomesstronger.Whenshefirst
cametolivewithme,Iwasvery
hesitanttoloveagainforIfeltin
doingsoIwouldsomehownot
beloyaltomypreviouscatKiki
ortomyhusband.Ididn'twant
anyonetotaketheirplacesand
remindedDivaofthisdailyfor
aboutthreemonths.Shewould
justlookupatme.
Whenever I sat down, she
would jump up on my lap and
waittobepetted.Kikihadnever
beenacatwhodesiredlongpe-
riodsofaffection.Iwasamazed
thefirsttimeDivasatonmylap
foraboutthreehours.Shewould
havestayedlonger,butIfeltthe
needtogetupandmoveabout.
Diva definitely has won me
over.NowIhavebecomeintouch
withapartofmyspiritthathas
longbeenneglected.Iamableto
loveagain.Thesadnessthatwas
somuchapartofmehasgiven
waytojoyandpeace.Shemakes
gettingupeachdayanadventure
thatIthoughtwasgoneforever.

loveagainortolovemoredeep-
