Solutions for Cancer and
A Vision of Comprehensive Health
By Eddy Taylor

Peggy Curry lost her mother, Evy Rosenbloom, in October of 1994 after an 11-year struggle with breast cancer. Daily she visited her mother while they often sat quietly just holding hands or brushing each other's hair. They read about the afterlife to each other from the book, Many Lives, Many Masters, by Brian L. Weiss, M.D., published by Simon & Schuster. When she passed away, they were halfway through the book.

Out of love for her mother, her four daughters and all the women whose lives may be touched by breast cancer, Peggy became determined to fight without bitterness, but from a place of love and hope. Peggy Curry founded EVY'S GARDEN, a not-for-profit company where all funds go to breast cancer research, patient support and education for prevention and holistic treatment programs.

Peggy has always been quite the cook. She originally made her organic marinara sauce in 1981 while teaching special education at the Culver City Middle School, where as a treat, they all made pizza every Friday. The sauce is made with a touch of honey, and is mild enough for Peggy's four daughters Alex, 10, Megan, 8, Annie, 5, and Sam, 4, and her loving husband Tim who especially likes to dip bread into the sauce.

A gala event for EVY'S GARDEN was celebrated last year at the South Coast Botanical Gardens in Palos Verdes. More than 1,450 people attended "An Evening in the Garden", raising more than $130,000! Funds generated at the event went to such charities as The Wellness Community (offering free cancer emotional support groups nationwide).

Since the event, Evy's Garden Organic Marinara has been introduced nationwide and is currently being sold at Whole Foods Markets, Wild Oats, Follow Your Heart, Gelsons, Bristol Farms, Boney's, Mothers Markets, Co-opportunity, and soon to be available at Hughes markets.

From the beginning, volunteers have felt the spirit of EVY'S GARDEN, answering the many mail and phone inquiries, doing mailings, computer work and demonstrating the sauce at various events and stores.

EVY'S GARDEN is increasing public awareness of the health-giving and preventative values of organically-grown and non-processed, vegetarian food. The money to achieve this will come from the sales of their organic marinara. There are many ways in which you can help. Buy Evy's Garden Organic Marinara. Let your grocer know that you would like to have this product available in your market. Send your inspirational stories of how you or a loved one has survived breast cancer using holistic methods.

Perhaps the greatest illusion is that there is a false sense of hope from modalities such as radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. In truth, many thousands of recoveries have been made using alternatives, often supplemented by the best of conventional medicine. One of the single-best books documenting the reversal of cancer is An Alternative Medicine Definitive Guide to Cancer. Written by Burton Goldberg, medical journalist and editor of Alternative Medicine Digest Magazine, it is a practical guide containing more than 1100 pages. For information, call Future Medicine Publishing (800) 610-HEAL.

Recently, actress/model Kelly Lebrock was featured on KTLA's popular morning TV show with Peggy. She recognized EVY'S GARDEN for funding the best of conventional and alternative medicine, and their acknowledgment of people's right to know all their options and to choose the treatment they desire. Kelly was also featured in a recent Congressional meeting on these very issues.

"Agricultural and industrial contaminants are the probable cause of the staggering rise in deaths from cancer, soon to surpass heart disease as the number one cause of premature death in America," according to Amanda Spake in "Is The Modern World Giving Us Cancer?" Health, Oct. 1995. Indeed the EPA itself has estimated that pesticides and other contaminants in food are the second leading probable cause of cancer. The Pesticide Monitoring Journal, 2:140-152, 1969, noted that meat contains 14 times more pesticides than plant foods! On May 10, 1997 the French Agriculture Minister, Phillipe Vasseur, announced his desire to ban imports of U.S. meat treated with hormones due to demonstrated public health risks.

More and more genetically-altered foods have now entered the marketplace without our knowledge, with many more awaiting approval. In many cases they do not require labeling. Very little, if any, research has been done on the risks involved. Several studies indicate that they may be a whole 'new category' of carcinogens. For detailed information on the new "frankenfoods" call Steve Urow at (310) 399-9355.

Monte Paulsen, a Detroit Times investigative journalist, shared his findings in a May 1993 article. "When levels of the pesticides DDT, Lindane and BHC in Israeli dairy products (previously 100-800% greater than the U.S. dairy products) were reduced, the breast cancer death rate fell dramatically by an estimated 20%."

Breast cancer is now the leading cause of premature death for our mothers, sisters and daughters between the ages of 40 and 55. Rachel Carson, famous environmentalist and author of Silent Spring, warned in the 70's that the tide of chemicals from the industrial age would be one of the world's greatest threats to human health. Could it be that this courageous woman who fought and lost her own valiant battle with breast cancer, using conventional treatments, was a casualty of the very agricultural and industrial toxins that she warned us about?

Peggy's search for how cancer can best be prevented and treated, led to her discovery of several local heroes, including Dr. Bob Marshall. Comprehensive and precise standards for pure food, water and environmental factors have been compiled by Dr. Marshall, (CEO of Pacific Research Labs) in Torrance, CA. He directs the research and production of 'biogenic' supplements for those recovering from chronic illness, as well as others seeking maximum fitness. He also hosts the HEALTHLINE radio show, Saturdays in Southern California from 9 to 10 a.m. on KBRT 740 AM. For more information, call (310) 543-4566 or check out their web site at www.ksky.com. Dr. Marshall is currently developing a state-of-the-art biogenic farm and health clinic in Austin, Texas.

EVY'S GARDEN is growing to assist others with the harvest of hope to conquer cancer and create a world of health. Peggy simply counsels her friends "to get to know your breasts; massage them with pure lavender oil. Eat organic and chemical-free. Reduce your stress levels and exercise daily for twenty minutes, drinking pure, energized water." She believes that if we come from a loving place instead of a fearful one, we can prevent many chronic illnesses. That's why the first ingredient in EVY'S GARDEN'S is . . . Love!
