Since the Chumash and Tong-va people first settled the mountains above the Pacific Ocean, Topanga Canyon has been a place of coexistence and harmony. During the 20th century, the area was home to numerous, diverse artists and their endeavors, from Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum and Woody Guthrie to Jim Morrison and Taj Mahal.

For the last seven years, the Topanga Canyon-based Living Wellness Foundation has created hundreds of community events and forums that incorporate Sacred Music, Theater, Film, Art and Literature to promote the kind of multi-cultural awareness that has always flourished in the Canyon.

On Sunday, September 18, the Foundation is planning a spectacular daylong Festival and Concert featuring World Music and activities in the tradition of the canyon’s artistic past.

The “Sounds of the Sacred, Songs of the Earth, A Celebration & Festival for World Peace” will carry on the canyon’s tradition of pan-cultural understanding, providing new, awareness-creating experiences for those who attend. This all-day, outdoor Festival and Sunset Concert promoting World Peace will feature an array of cross-cultural activities and participatory performances in music, dance and theatre led by visionary artists and practitioners of ancient healing arts. The Festival’s performances and activities begin at 12:00 noon, leading up to the Sunset Concert which begins at 5:30 p.m.

Through its cultural outreach program, the Living Wellness Foundation will bring inner-city children so they can partake in the festival’s Traditional Music, Dance and Story from other cultures and feel their connection to their families, their communities and to the world.

His Holiness The Dalai Lama initiated the World Festival Of Sacred Music in Los Angeles in 1999 to mark the passing of the millennium with a message of peace, cultural understanding, and spirituality.

As a prelude to the September 18th Festival, on September 15th the Foundation will recognize a group of individuals who have made extraordinary spiritual, humanitarian and artistic contributions to society.

At this “Sounds of the Sacred Awards Gala,” The Special “Jewel of Light” Award will be given in honor of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his continued devotion to World Peace by encouraging cross-cultural awareness, through compassion, love and understanding.

Tickets to the Festival & Concert can be purchased by calling (866) 384-3060 or at www.inhousetickets.com Adults $30 and children $10. For information & tickets to the Awards Gala contact Gavin Keilly (310) 278-3988 or visit www.gbkevents.com.
