“Ask Rev. Sandy and Rev. Kirk” is a column developed to allow people an opportunity to seek additional answers about spiritual and religious insights. These are a few of the most recent questions received.

Q: I understand Religious Science uses a unique form of prayer. How does it differ from more traditional forms of prayer?
— Spencer, Aliso Viejo

A: We believe that through any form of prayer, God responds with the highest good for everyone involved. Prayer is the connection with God that ultimately results in clarity and peace. In Religious Science we use affirmative prayer which is called Prayer Treatment. This is a five-step process in which we connect with our higher power.

Step one is RECOGNITION where we acknowledge that there is a Higher Power, a Divine Intelligence, an all-knowing Presence we call God.

Step two is UNIFICATION where we recognize our oneness with this Divine Essence. As we are one with God, we can then be a conduit for the divine unfolding of Good.

Step three is REALIZATION where we state affirmatively and in the present that whatever our desire is for any given situation, it is done here and now without question.

Step four is GRATITUDE where we give thanks that the situation is resolved at the highest level and for the highest good.

Step five is RELEASE we surrender or let go and let God, knowing that all will unfold in the greatest Divine perfection.

Q: What is the difference between “our plan” and “God’s plan”?
— Michele, Corona Del Mar

A: We know we are made in the image and likeness of God and that we are the very essence of Divine Potential. If we meditate or commune with God and hear that still voice or listen to our heart and take action in what feels right, we are fulfilling God’s divine plan. However, we do have free choice and sometimes choose according to our human desires. Therefore, our plan, at times, may differ from God’s plan for our highest good.
