Menopause & Peri-Menopause
Are Not A Disease
By Alex Strande, ND., Ph.D
Menopause and peri-menopause are not a disease. Yet, they can cause the break up of families, and debilitating side effects that destroy your quality of life. Most people don’t realize that extremely simple measures can be taken to control these symptoms naturally.
There is no need to drug yourself with chemical poisons such as hormones, antidepressants and anti-psychotic drugs as they are known to cause cancers, liver and kidney failures and lasting damage to the central nervous system. We all know that studies have been recently released indicating synthetic hormones can predispose you to certain cancers, however, this is still the number one choice for menopausal symptoms offered by conventional medicine.
Many women try over-the-counter alternative medicine in the form of a few vitamins, supplements and creams and get disappointed. You may get some slight results, but many get discouraged by the lack of dramatic results and the inability to control symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, depression, aging skin, heavy and/or irregular bleeding, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, vaginal dryness and poor concentration.
In some cultures such as Japan or Tahiti, women do not experience these symptoms. In fact, in Japan there is no word for menopause since the symptoms simply do not exist. The key is herbal foods that have been known for thousands of years to be good for you and that we have ignored since the discovery of antibiotics after WWII and the proliferation of drug companies controlling which products they push on doctors and the media.
So even in the case of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), where we are given concrete evidence that they do in fact cause cancers, it is still widely pushed by doctors. Because of the way foods are preserved, more and more women are going through peri-menopause earlier — sometimes in their thirties. Socrates said, “Treat your food as medicine and your medicine as food.” Or, basically you are what you eat.
Today, naturopathic medicine can even do better. Concentrated liquid botanicals deliver results within a few days. Make no mistake, if you take vitamin B6 or some herbal capsules and you do not start seeing results within two or three days, you are not taking therapeutic dosages and they will not work. I never had a peri-menopausal or menopausal woman who did not see positive results within two to three days. So if you are supplementing something or have a therapy of some sort that does not start yielding results within three days you should stop wasting your money and do something that will actually work.
False Unicorn is a wonderful uterine tonic that delivers a healthy dose of estrogen-like nutrients into the body that will make the body think your estrogen is not decreasing, thereby making your peri-menopause and menopause non-symptomatic. Add to it Vitex, a wonderful hormonal balancer with mild progesterone-like properties and Blue Cohosh and your mood swings are gone. At the same time if nerve system restoratives are added such as Avena, Verbena, Bacopa, or Damiana then you are laughing all the way.
One of my patients told me they have tried all of these herbal remedies by buying some tinctures at the health food stores, and they didn’t work. That is correct. Your hot flashes are not gone because you took a few drops of diluted herbal preparations. If you had a bottle of it instead of a few drops, it might start working. It’s like giving a starving person half of a carrot and asking if they are still hungry.
Most people don’t realize you can actually cure, not just relieve most diseases, by using therapeutic dosages of “foods” (herbs) and plants. One liter of soymilk a day will control a lot of peri-menopausal symptoms in a number of cases on its own accord. Add a few more concentrated herbal extracts and your misery is gone.
If your symptoms are not much better within three days, you are doing something wrong. Don’t believe any practitioner who tells you that you will need weeks or months to get better. So ladies, why not try what women have done for thousands of years and simply get rid of any trace of peri-menopause or menopause naturally?
