Celebrating Life Together

Life flows along in its steady way providing us with a playground to learn about love. Our experiences with life are unique, depending on what we choose to do with the time we have carved out for ourselves. One thing is certain; life is an opportunity for us to celebrate the experience of living, individually and collectively.

Living fully means something different to everyone. Each person’s choices for their life are very different from the next. One person can pack a lifetime into a few short years, and another may take many years to gradually evolve their artistry of life. This weaving together of experiences makes life the colorful tapestry it is. Everyone has their place in the arrangement, and participation at all levels is significant.

Holidays offer us the perfect occasion to make more time for connecting with each other, yet many people experience emotional difficulty during this time of year. Holidays can activate feelings of separation and loneliness when your heart is filled with grief. A holiday season spent without caring friends around can bring up past unhealed emotions, often related to loss of love.

Although grief is a natural part of recovery from some human experiences, wrapping yourself in isolation to get through the holidays is not the answer. The emotional pain will still be there when all is said and done. A better solution might be to resolve past upset by letting your emotions direct you to an inner awareness and permitting the feelings to heal. It is not necessary to get caught in the drama or pain of feelings. Releasing them in a safe way is not only healing, it opens the door to inner joy. This unlocks the heart, and takes you from separation to connection as you naturally begin to relate with others in meaningful ways.

Recently I experienced an example of this that I will always remember. My young grandson and I were in the park. He was pointing out the birds above our heads when he noticed a woman leaning against a tree. She was breathing hard so I went over to see if she needed assistance. Her eyes were closed and she was crying. Before I knew it, my grandson reached out his small hand and put it in hers. She opened her eyes and a small smile began to appear. As we all sat together for a few minutes the smile spread to her whole face. After we left, my grandson looked up at me and said “Grandma, that lady remembers love now.”

From the examples set by our amazing children, we can all learn the healing value of reaching out to each other. Life is a shared experience. It takes all of us interacting together to create a more loving planet. We do this by connecting with one another and sharing the love we have to give. As we let go of pain to find more love within our heart, we have more to share. This time of year holds special opportunities to remember the celebration of life begins in each individual heart. Sharing every chance we get, creates a more loving world, which is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other and ourselves.
