Holiday Hints to Celebrate the Earth!
By Chitra Gunderson

Wow! Is it that time of year again? With holidays right around the corner the excitement of family reunions, the stress of preparations, and knowing that holiday shopping always exceeds my budget causes me some mixed feelings.

One thing I know for sure…no matter what faith someone follows when the holidays arrive, we are all bombarded with extra-sensory over load; glittering lights, wih 30%, 40%, 60% off sales, shoppers everywhere, and traffic everywhere. It becomes a struggle to remain grounded in gratitude and not get caught up in the flurry of shop ‘til you drop!

My personal challenge has always been to try to keep our family mood centered on giving rather than receiving. Not always an easy endeavor especially with children in the house, when keeping up with the kids next door or the latest fashion fad is the priority.

One angle I have used over the years is to have a special family project that involves everyone, keeping it simple and earth-centered of course. One year we went to the forest to pick up pinecones and decorated them to give as gifts. Everyone was excited with the idea of giving something they made…to this day I know I can always look forward to receiving a gift that my daughter has made for me — in fact she still makes almost every gift she gives!

Now, with a crazy work schedule, sometimes I find there is just no time for the creativity it takes to make a thoughtful gift. So I started looking for something meaningful that carried the message “remember the earth” and “be grateful for nature’s gifts”.

I found the perfect solution to my dilemma — a variety of Holiday Gift Paks from the rainforest; dark chocolate and Rainforest herb tea with a beautiful Peruvian cup; Lluvia™ natural skin care pack; and more... What a find! There were gifts for everyone, even the “difficult to buy for”, making my shopping extremely easy.

One easy way to honor and celebrate nature’s gifts is to keep Rainforest herbal cocktails and treats on hand ready to serve. Enjoyable for any age young, old, drinkers and non-drinkers, Rainforest Cocktails give the festive feel and offer healthy enjoyment.

Here are some favorite refreshments that my family and friends enjoy: (Vegetarian and Vegan approved.)

PEACE COLADA
Too often I hear of family members getting together for the holidays, only to end up stressed out from all of the preparation or in an argument over differences. The mellowing potency of Kava in this drink has been traditionally served for thousands of years at important meetings to keep peace and turn adversaries into comrades. To ensure harmonious relations at your holiday gatherings, serve the Peace Colada.

RAINFOREST FRUIT AND NUT BREAD

Family is the most important part of the holidays, for many it is the only time of the year they get together. As family and friends arrive at your doorstep for the holidays, treat them to a special herbal cocktail. Most of all enjoy your time together and wrap up your holidays knowing the memories you created will last beyond a lifetime. And remember to celebrate the Earth!
