Tips on Keeping Mind and Body Young 



Presently answering the question:
 “Is it mainly our inner, mental traumas which cause us to age?” 

Dear Reader,
 “Lots of people with no symptoms at all are dying,” wrote Jane Howard, author of a great book about human potential called “Please Touch”. And although Ms. Howard’s main focus is on group therapy, she also emphasizes the need to be your own mind/body therapist, mainly because no one knows your whole picture better than you do, thus no one can love you deeper or longer than you can love yourself. And in a statement classic enough to be framed (or at least put into capital letters), Jane Howard lets us know that: “TO COMMIT YOURSELF TO LIFE IS TO COMMIT YOURSELF TO YOUR BODY.” Absolutely. And via my Rejuvenator’s Bible, surely that commitment involves— 

Cholesterol, cholesterol, so much talk about the effects of cholesterol on the heart that I don’t bother to mention it in the chapter about diet. But a new angle about cholesterol (published in 1997 by the Associated Press) says this: 

“Although half of heart ailments are linked to high levels of cholesterol, about half of those who get heart attacks or strokes have normal cholesterol levels.” The study then says that the non-diet-related heart attacks are usually caused by a mysterious, mentally-induced “inflammation” which “triples the likelihood of heart attacks and doubles the incidents of strokes” — an ailment which “simmers away while people are still outwardly healthy.” Outwardly healthy maybe, but where’s that merry heart? 

Are “inflamed” hearts so addicted to suffering that they call to mind that old anecdote which says: “The only difference between Catholics and Jews, is Jews are born suffering and Catholics learn it in school.” Oh really? And so where then do Protestants learn their suffering, from being part of the insufferable “Silent Majority?” And do Hindus and Muslims get taught misery by bending backs to salaam their suffering? Woes upon woes, as even one of the happiest of established religions, Buddhism, decrees one of its “Four Noble Truths” to be that (ouch):”All of life is suffering.”  And yet to de-age, feeling better and better about how youthing occurs via the system explored herein, a key thing I do is REFUSE  to be a chronic sufferer. Yes, refusing to replace “happy-go-lucky” with sad, stopped and unlucky. Or as the “original Rasta,” wise old king Solomon put it: 

“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” And along with bones drying from broken spirits comes the affliction of envy, something which Solomon addresses by saying: “A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy the rottenness of the bones.” 

Indeed, a sound and merry heart devoid of envy seems to be something we all need to work on for the “life of the flesh.” And as we go back two and a-half thousand years to the proverbs of merry king Sol, we can see that humanity’s problems haven’t changed all that much, for the same mind/body/spirit dilemmas existed then as now — and on into the future.
