Join the Celebration at the New World Fair!
By Warren Cook
The 2nd Annual New World Fair, an exciting green living, health and holistic
celebration, returns to the Pasadena Convention Center
on Saturday and
Sunday, May 17-18. The event offers so much more
than the typical expo. In addition to great exhibits, speakers and workshops, it
also features fun interactive activities and marvelous stage entertainment.
On the outdoor Plaza, visitors are invited to play in the 100-piece drum circle
sponsored by Remo Drum Company and facilitated by Christine Stevens, the
well-known founder of UpBeat Drum Circles. No prior musical experience
necessary! Or guests can have a go at swirling giant hula-hoops with guidance
from the folks of Hoopnotica. It is easy and fun! Fairgoers can also experience
the inspirational power of walking a labyrinth, try stone balancing or create
patterns in a Zen sand tray.
Continuous entertainment on the Plaza Stage includes: the celebrated reggae
group Lamour & The Mystik Band; Troupe Nashida belly dancers; pop rock female
duo Jayla singing songs from their latest CD, Faithfully Alive; and popular jazz
guitarist Dirk K.
The biggest attraction is the 200 exhibitors who have come to
Pasadena from across the nation. Strolling through
the fair, visitors can sample organic foods and beverages, learn about the
latest in natural healthcare, shop for jewelry, clothing and green-living and
fair trade products, receive a massage, have their palm read, or get a henna
tattoo.
Choose from more than 70 lectures and workshops presented continually. Among the
featured speakers are Ron Teeguarden, the founder of Dragon Herbs, speaking on
“Radiant Health with
Chinese Tonic Herbs,” and Dr. Tony O’Donnell talking
about “Super Foods That Heal,” Sebastian Gentry with “Laughter Yoga,” special
workshops by Helice “Sparky” Bridges, the creator of the blue ribbon
ceremony “Who I Am Makes A Difference,” plus a guided meditation presented by
the Shambhala Center.
Visitors can feast on delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.
The New World Fair
will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E. Green St. entrance. Hours
are
