Staying in The Light
By Dr. Scott & Shannon Peck

How well do you stay in the light rather than getting sucked into darkness?

All of us get stuck in darkness from time to time. And the weight of darkness can dramatically drain our life energy. But there are valuable lessons we can learn during dark times and in facing the shadows. Lessons of great wisdom are earned and learned during these times. Think of how much higher you have risen in life understanding since facing past darkness and how much brighter your light is as a result.

So how can we be even better at staying in the light when darkness challenges us? What are the love skills that can keep us in the light and help us prevail over darkness?
These were the questions we posed at a recent “Saturday Night Love” gathering in San Diego and we thought you would enjoy the group’s thoughtful and healing responses. Here are some ways to stay in the light:

•In meditation, gently stand back and separate yourself from the circumstances creating darkness within. Just observe, without letting your emotions entangle your soul. Then practice seeing yourself as love sees you — valuable, essential, magnificent, and so very needed.

•Recognize the freedom of remembering that every moment is a choice, not a condition. Your energy can change with great rapidness when you reach for the light in surrender to Love.

•Find and activate the light switch. Darkness is truly the absence of light, so look for the light switch. And contrary to how the darkness may argue with you, the light switch is within you. You are free this very moment to flip the switch. Your heart can turn it on by just thinking about love being with you now.

•Don’t live in darkness alone. Share your heart feelings with a compassionate friend. Opening and sharing your heart is a valuable way of loving yourself and opening to the love you deserve. Such sharing lets in those first shafts of healing light which the darkness cannot resist.

•Remember that pain, anger, and conflict are a call for love — so let Love answer. Don’t fight and resist Love. Take that first step of being willing to let the darkness go. Then let waves of love cascade through your heart.

•Love yourself as you love your way out of darkness. Your needs are just as important as anyone else’s needs. It is not selfish to love yourself. It is essential for a life of light. Do something you most enjoy doing.

•Read an inspirational article or book that can shift your thinking into higher possibilities of light.

•Expand or create habits in your life that eliminate darkness and create light. For example, rather than expecting the worst — or even the same old thing — in your life, create the mental habit of simply opening your heart to infinite possibilities of higher good. Such contemplation creates light.

•Be proactive with love. Look around your life and see the suffering and the immense need for your love to activate. Send and give love to those around you. It’s amazing how loving others will lift you in the light yourself.

If you are struggling to stay in the light today, you are not alone. You would be amazed at the immense struggles silently taking place just in the circle of friends and associates you know. Such a need for light — everywhere on our planet! Just this knowing can awaken you to use your life force for a higher purpose of ending suffering around you. You are desperately needed as a light worker. The fact that you are reading this column confirms this truth.

So thank you, from us and from the universe, for remembering your soul self and your infinitely-important mission here on Earth. We are not in competition with others. Or even in comparison with others. No one else has your light mission. We are unique, individual flames standing together in a fusion of light healing. This is why your eyes and heart are on this page this very moment. We all so deeply need each other. Let us rise together and claim the light we know is ours to feel and live. Welcome to the heart of Love!
