The Whole Being Weekend Scheduled for Sept. 14-16
By Robert DeSaulniers
Where else can you get an entire weekend of fresh air, great workshops, mountain accommodations in beautiful Idyllwild (either under the stars or in shared cabin accommodations) and the chance to meet great new people all for only $89? ($75 before September 1st.) At the Whole Being Weekend, of course!
If you’ve never gone you must consider going this September 14-16. That is, if a weekend in a mountain paradise, eating great vegetarian food, exercising your body, mind and spirit and relaxing in a great mountain setting appeals to you. Whole Being Weekend is a playful, enriching, festival of possibilities for people of all ages and lifestyles. Included in the fee for this three-day happening are all meals (vegetarian), lodging and a plethora of workshops.
Guests can choose from accommodations in the bunk-style cabins (first come, first serve, bring your own bedding) or they may pitch a tent in one of the picturesque meadows. Ah, what a wonderful way to end the summer and prepare for the fall.
The Whole Being Weekend is an annual tradition begun thirty years ago when a small group of SDSU students decided to join together each fall, in nature, for a weekend of discussion, sharing and community. This event has grown each year and now attracts hundreds of people gathering from all over San Diego County and even drawing a large number of participants from Orange County and Los Angeles.
Attendees gather in fellowship and have the opportunity to sample over 100 + workshops, with great Friday and Saturday evening events. Karl Anthony will once again offer his incredibly popular Saturday night concert which is the musical highlight of this wonderful weekend.
Jim Nessheim the “father” of this event has recently relinquished his role as coordinator of this gathering for 28 years, to Robert DeSaulniers of The San Diego Center for the Moving Arts. DeSaulniers said, “Whole Being Weekend will follow in the great tradition of all previous Whole Being Weekends.” In fact, many participants are raring to go, given that the spring Whole Being Weekend hasn’t happened for a few years.
This is the third year that this event will be held at Camp Buckhorn in, if I may say so, idyllic, Idyllwild. This beautiful mountain town offers stunning vistas, blue skies and abundant hiking. A sample of the workshops offered include: Feng Shui, drumming, rebirthing, A Course in Miracles, bodywork, arts and crafts, yoga, Tái Chi, meditation, psychic healing and much more. There is also a wonderful opening ceremony and a very heartfelt closing ceremony where the spirit of communion and love in our community are experienced.
This is really one of those rare opportunities where so many of us can join together in a place of love, laughter and sharing for a whole weekend, at a great price, in a great setting. This weekend is incredibly popular due its great reputation as THE place to be each September. Don’t miss it!
