Healing Old Wounds Holistically
By Dr. Juliet Tien (Dr. J), D. N. Sc.
All human beings have experienced physical and emotional trauma at one time or another, to a lesser or greater degree. Time can heal or imprison. If you opt for healing, traumatic experiences can serve as an opportunity for you to learn, grow, and expand. If you opt for imprisonment, trauma can turn into unhealed wounds. These unhealed old wounds can rob you of your productivity, peace, love and happiness.
Common physical old wounds include unhealed trauma from automobile accidents, sports injuries, slips and falls, and inflammation. Symptoms of these physical old wounds can range from head to toe. The medical community may give you various fancy diagnoses such as trauma-induced headaches, cervical strain, bursitis, upper or lower back pain, tennis elbow, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, worn cartilage, arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc. The list goes on. Common emotional old wounds include persistent or recurrent anger, resentment, fear, guilt, regret or grief. All physical symptoms are reflections of your emotional and spiritual states. All physical pain is an indication that you do not love yourself! The lack of self-love stems from the misbelief that you are unimportant, unwanted or unlovable. Physical and emotional old wounds are like Siamese twins. They are inseparable.
Most people love to subscribe to “Better Living through Denial”. Thus, they tend to explain away their physical and/or emotional pain. They also give their power away by seeking a quick fix, such as taking pain-killers, anti-depressants, or anti-anxiety drugs. All these quick fixes obscure your ability to identify the real cause of your physical and emotional pain. As soon as you incorporate the following holistic approach to cleanse your body, mind and spirit simultaneously, you will experience substantial relief and transformation!
Anti-Yeast Nutritional Program:
An anti-yeast nutritional program contains no
sugar, dairy, wheat, yeast, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and chemicals. This
approach prevents your body from new assaults. The Standard American Diet (SAD)
feeds the yeast and parasites in your body. The well-fed yeast and parasites
usually invade the parts of your body containing old injuries. They colonize in
the defenseless areas of your body and create perpetual inflammations. By
restraining yourself from feeding your little enemies their favorite food, you
give your body a chance to heal. Your body has the innate intelligence to heal
if you do not interfere with that natural healing process.
Herbal Therapy:
This
approach removes old toxins that interfere with your body’s natural healing
process. Properly formulated herbal concentrates can control the overgrowth of
yeast and parasites, get rid of harmful bacteria and viruses, and regenerate
your glands and organs. When your body is well nourished, your body cells will
resemble a smiling, full moon. They are happy and full of vigor. In this state,
your immune system will be strong and able to defend your body against invasions
from yeast, parasites, bacteria, viruses and other foreign agents. Thus, your
body has a chance to heal naturally.
Exercise:
Exercise improves blood
circulation and increases energy flow. A stagnant environment can become an
incubator for yeast and parasites to overgrow. When blood circulation is smooth,
toxins in the body can also be flushed out more easily. Slow walking is the
preferred form of exercise if you are experiencing physical pain. Depending on
your energy level, you may start from 10 minutes of slow walking to 30 minutes
or one hour per day. Choose a time of day that is easiest for you to do it
consistently. If you can choose a location where there are trees and/or flowers,
and white clouds against blue skies, the effect will be further enhanced. If
not, walking around in a shopping mall is just fine.
Sexercise:
Good sex
increases self-esteem and improves blood circulation. When you enjoy a good
quality and quantity of sex with the right partner, you feel loved and
energized. Sexual desire and potency do not have to decline with age. Some of my
clients enjoy frequent sex (at least three or four times a week) in their 80s!
You are never too old or too tired for good sex. Remember two principles: 1) you
either use it or lose it; and 2) practice makes perfect! One of the purposes of
life is to have joy both in bed and out of bed. When you learn to enjoy sex with
the right partner on a regular basis, you will recognize who you are and develop
self-love and self-respect. This, in turn, will facilitate healing for your
physical and/or emotional wounds!
Meditation:
Meditation is a practice to reach a state of deep
relaxation and peace. Some people also use this practice to train the mind to
develop insight. When your mind is centered, your body functions better. Many of
my clients reported that both their physical and emotional pain substantially
reduced after a period of regular meditation. In contemporary society, people
are always pressured for time. There is fast food, fast photo, and so on. Why
not try a 10-minute fast meditation? As long as you meditate consistently on a
daily basis, even 10 minutes a day will yield some result. The best times to
meditate are usually in the morning upon waking, and in the evening before you
go to bed. If you cannot meditate at these times, just choose a time you can
meditate regularly. Consistency is the most crucial factor in obtaining good
results.
Prayer:
If you believe in God, any kind of God, pray! Even if you
don’t believe in God, I still urge you to pray. It’s free of charge. What
have you got to lose? It’s even better if you can pray on your knees at least
twice a day, once in the morning when you roll out of bed and again in the
evening before you go to bed, after your daily meditation. Praying on your knees
make you humble. Chronic pain is a humbling experience. When you can reduce
yourself to a humbling capacity, that’s the time you will get the most
miraculous effect! No matter how you feel, always give your gratitude first, and
then ask for what you want next. Focus on positive notes. Never waste energy on
any negative thinking.
Freedom or imprisonment is a matter of personal choice. When you learn to love, respect and take care of yourself, you will heal your physical and emotional wounds naturally, without drugs or surgery!
