SHARK CARTILAGE AND

Fear is an emotion that is often experienced when cancer is diagnosed. Cancer takes the lives of more than 1,400 individuals each day. Conventional therapies have been fighting this disease by attempting to eliminate more cancer cells than healthy cells. Despite these efforts, the war on cancer is being lost using traditional methods. The fact is that there has been an increase in cancer incidence. In view of this, shark cartilage is a welcomed addition to the fight against cancer.
While cancer has escalated in humans, the cancer rate for sharks is estimated at one out of one million. It is this fact that led researchers to hypothesize that within the shark there were qualities that could be used for treating cancer.
Before understanding how shark cartilage attacks tumors it is important to understand tumor formation. The human body is made up of a variety of healthy cells that divide and replace each other in a structured fashion. Occasionally, due to a damage in the cell regulation mechanism, the division becomes too rapid and the growth is non-orderly. This increased division produces too much tissue and tumors begin to form. These tumors formulate blood vessels necessary to feed the tumor and remove waste products. This process is called angiogenesis; meaning angio - "pertaining to blood vessels" and genesis - "formation of".
As previously mentioned, the incidence of cancer in sharks is very rare. This is due to the fact that the skeletal structure of sharks is cartilage, making up six to eight percent of the shark's total weight. The cartilage has anti-tumor activity because it inhibits blood vessel growth (anti-angiogenesis). Shark cartilage not only keeps tumors from growing, it also breaks down the blood vessel of existing tumors. Each time the vessels die, the tissue turns gray, then decays and leaves an air space. This process, first noticed by Dante Ruccio, N.D.C, is referred to as the "Swiss cheese effect". When this process continues the tumor may reach full necrosis (tissue death).
It is important to mention that shark cartilage can be used for all types of solid tumors. According to Dr. I. William Lane, researcher, advocate for shark cartilage and author of Sharks Still Donšt Get Cancer, studies have been conducted in stage III and stage IV patients. Results show that shark cartilage is most effective in breast, prostate, brain, liver, cervix, and central nervous system tumors.
The amount of shark cartilage used in clinical studies has been 1 gram per 2.2 pounds of body weight Physicians have administered higher dosages for more serious tumors or very advanced malignancies. Shark cartilage may be taken orally or administered rectally. Taken orally on an empty stomach, the shark cartilage, mixed with water, vegetable juices, or fruit nectar juices, passes rapidly through the stomach acids, avoiding any breakdown of active proteins. Administered rectally, the shark cartilage is mixed with body temperature water prepared in a retention enema.
Shark cartilage has few side effects. Some people may experience stomach upsets and there have been limited cases of allergic reactions. Since shark cartilage inhibits neovascu-larization (blood vessel formation), those recovering from a heart attack, pregnant women, and women wanting to conceive should not take shark cartilage for a period of time.
Shark cartilage is not a miracle therapy, simply an alternative choice. It may be used as a sole treatment or in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiation. Presently, it's getting results without harmful effects to the body.
Shark cartilage is a product worthwhile looking into for anyone searching for a less invasive treatment or those who have been informed that there is no more that conventional treatment can do for them.
