“Ask Rev. Sandy” is a column that has been developed to allow people the opportunity to seek additional answers about spiritual and religious insights. These are a few of the most recent questions that have been received:
Q: Dear Rev. Sandy,
With all the diverse religious practices in the world, do you feel that there is a common belief that weaves through all faiths?
Rachel Irvine, CA
A: Yes. I believe most religions profess that the ultimate goal is to attain a personal and intimate relationship with God. Although there may be different “names” for God or that higher power, each religion establishes the importance of an understanding and connection with this divine force in our universe. We believe there are many paths leading to one God.
Q: Dear Rev. Sandy
How do you explain destructive or negative forces that show up in our world?
James Newport Beach, CA
A: God is always present in the universe no matter what circumstances may appear on the physical level. When we look at life simply from our human eyes, we have limited vision — we see only pain and suffering. However, when we look through our Spiritual eyes we know a greater plan is at work, an invisible force, God; we know that amidst every challenge is a solution waiting to be born. God never disconnects from us. However, we do at times disconnect from God. We, as individuals have been given free will and choice in our actions. From this, we may or may not be functioning in accord with God and the universe. In every situation, there is always learning and growth to be gained from the experience.
Q: Dear Rev. Moore
As Reverend of an interfaith community of New Thought individuals, what is your relationship with Jesus?
Kimberly San Clemente, CA
A: I feel that Jesus was one of the greatest spiritual teachers in history. He was at the highest level of communing with God and a direct conduit for God’s message of love and compassion. Jesus was a way shower for all of us. He demonstrated that by living our Truth, which is God’s Truth, the world could exist in peace and harmony. He lived that Truth and died for what he believed in, encouraging us to seek that same Truth for ourselves.
