Creating Positive Energies in 2001
By Jenny Liu

As we approach the year 2001, the planetary energies in our universe are shifting into new positions. According to feng shui theories, the configuration of the planets has a certain impact on our well being. For instance, when Jupiter and Saturn align over the United States every twenty years, the president at that time will have his life in danger either by illness, injury, assassination or attempt on his life. This has been documented from Harrison (1840), Lincoln (1860), Garfield (1880), Mc-Kinley (1900), Wilson (1920), F.D. Roosevelt (1940), Kennedy (1960), to Reagan (1980).

In feng shui, the Nine Star Chart is used to interpret planetary effects at the different orientations of the Earth. Every year, there are certain directions that can bring positive or negative occurrences. Knowing how to make the proper arrangements in our homes and offices ensures a new year of prosperity, good health and harmony in our lives.

Based on your birth date, you are either categorized as an Eastern or Western Direction Pattern person. If you are an Eastern Direction Pattern person, the north, south, east and southeast directions are generally more compatible with your energy.  If you are born of the Western Direction Pattern, the northwest, west, southwest and northeast are generally more compatible with you. Of these four directions that match each person, every year certain ones bring positive or negative events. Whenever possible, we align ourselves to our positive directions and avoid or adjust the negative energies.

Eastern Direction Pattern
If you are an Eastern Direction Pattern person, the north and south directions are the strongest for you this year. If your home or office is oriented on a north/south axis, and you use a door that faces north or south, you are able to bring energies of prestige and fame to your home or office. Placing nine purple flowers or eight red flowers respectively at the north or south door can enhance these energies.

For people who are hoping to get licensed, pass exams or get promoted, studying in the north room aligns you with energies of scholarship and achievement.  Place an amethyst crystal by your desk to stimulate mind focus and memory.  Sleeping or working in the south room this year allows you to absorb energies that bring growth and expansion. If you want to get pregnant or have a booming business, the south room is where you want to be. Rose quartz crystal spheres strategically placed around the bed can help fertility. An image of the sun over your desk can attract wealth.

The east and southeast directions are weaker. If there are negative or unstable sources of energy such as toilets, pumps, dark alleyway or construction located in these directions, this can bring potential problems.  The east tends to bring conflict, arguments and mourning. Use an image of a ship with white sails to bring energies of smooth sailing or two turtles for stability.  The southeast can bring adultery or love trouble.  A rainbow obsidian crystal placed in the southeast corner can help release negative energies. Try to avoid using the east and southeast doors and rooms,

Western Direction Pattern
Western Direction Pattern people should focus their time in the west and northwest directions. Entering from a door that faces west (as you stand at the door looking out) brings travel that comes with romance and income opportunities. However, because west and east directions are in alignment, the unstable energies of the east can bring third parties into love relationships and unexpected expenses. An elephant, symbolic of strength and wisdom, can be used to overcome problems and reinforce sound judgment if placed facing east.

Western Direction Pattern people who would like to have children in 2001 should sleep in the west room.  Working in the west office enhances creativity and promotion. A water fountain can activate these positive energies. The northwest direction brings recognition, passion and prosperity.  If your love life needs a boost, try placing peach blossoms in your northwest corner.  Eight coins placed on your desk in the northwest room may help you get that bonus.

Be aware of the southwest direction which has the most volatile energies this year.  Any ground breaking, movement or negative element in the southwest can set off energies of recklessness, scandal, injury, bad habits or bring troublemakers. The southwest room and door should be avoided. If that is not possible, use an image or sculpture of a golden dragon for protection and blessings in the southwest direction.

The northeast direction has a mix of positive and negative effects, however, because the northeast is aligned with the southwest, its energies may actually be troublesome. If there are no negative elements in the northeast or southwest, being in the northeast room can bring good business and celebration.  However, there may also be some finger pointing or adultery. Women tend to be stronger and have more voice in the northeast room.  A set of chi ling (a guardian animal that is a combination of the dragon, lion and horse known to release negative energies while absorbing positive energies) can be placed in the northeast corner.

It is important to remember that these are general guidelines as there are more than 60 factors involved in a feng shui analysis. Although making the above adjustments can help, personalized recommendations based on your unique case are more effective.
